Zena Thamer

My name is Zena Thamer, I came from Iraq two years ago. In my life especially when I was in Iraq the war had negative impacts on us. I was young, so the war made feelings of fear inside me. Therefore, I’m very blissful to be involved in this project, to show my feelings towards war. My concept in this project is to emphasise the fear inside myself as well as showing how the children are suffering during war. I used different ideas to make the shape of the shoe, such as different bright colours and I used wire and a piece of wood to create the shape of a prison. In addition I used the colour red to show feelings of anger and childrens fear. I coloured the wire of the prison with the colour red to make it look like blood. I drew certain shapes on the shoe, for instance clouds and a sun, I wanted to represent hope for the future. On the other side of the shoe I used gold paint as well as drops of red to show the future with fear and pain of the past. The last thing I did is that I left the prison open from the sides to show that the children might go out and live their lives. Eventually I would like to tank these people who let me be involved in this project and let me express my feelings and the pain inside of me. I hope that people would like my shoe and understand my concept of being in prison with all that pain or who are affected by war. Lastly, I hope there is no war after today as I wish to all the children in the world to live in peace with their families. Zena Thamer
