Natalie Griller, Nunavut

The sculptural piece is called Nature/s Love Song: Life Springs from the Volcano and has: a hand-felted wool shawl representing our natural environment, with little shells like musical notes and sound, and strands of mohair for water and rhythm; a volcanic rock to symbolize having what we need to rejuvenate and grow (volcanic soil is nutrient rich and very fertile), the shoe looks a lot like volcanic rock, and itself is the ground to foster rejuventation; fabric vines to symbolize growth and healing within a loving community, in reference also to Connie\'s art piece of embroidered leaves; a little plant with roots, growing out of the shoe - symbolizing personal rejuventation coming up from within our tired and sore selves. The piece is meant to be touched and rearranged as one pleases, to vary the shoe\'s environment to reflect one\'s own sense of things.
