From the moment I saw Stella\'s project I knew I wanted to be part of it. Families and children are the greatest losers in war and yet somehow, forever, they drift through the cracks. I was particularly struck with the idea that as the shoes are sold others replace them. A bittersweet reminder that unfortunately is too similar to the children of war. Most of the objects in \"shoechild\" were specifically chosen: a roof overhead / comfort, doll\'s head = personifying the shoe, blank/empty eyes / unseeing/blind world concern, patched/timeworn framework / an imperfect life, wire / ties that bind, heart / love conquers all, globe charm / global view/global problem. n
