Jen Moses, Vancouver

Most hearts are complicated, shaded with dark and dappled with light. There are those hearts that never mend again once they are broken. Or, if they do mend, they heal themselves in a crooked and lopsided way, as if sewn together by a careless craftsman. I want this shoe to represent a heart that mends and heals from injustice and violence to become a whole and healthy heart through the work of skilled and loving healers. I believe that some of the essential threads in the tapestry of a healing heart are love, medical attention, beauty, knowledge and community. I have put the shoe inside an adult/s shoe to walk along side a healing child. The adult/s shoe holds a safety net for the child and yet, it/self needs the safety net of community in order to support the child in his/her healing.
